On November 11, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendants Hoang Van Viet (born 1993), Hoang Van Anh (born 1995), and Nguyen Van Hoa (born 1993), all residing in Nghi Huong commune, Cua Lo town, for the crime ofOrganizing illegal use of drugs.
Two defendants: Hoang Anh Nhat (born 2003), residing in Cua Lo town and Nguyen Hong Thai (born 1997), residing in Nghi An commune, Vinh city were prosecuted for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
The indictment shows that on the afternoon of January 20, 2024, Hoang Van Anh organized his birthday party with the presence of many friends.
After the party, Anh and many people went to Sydney Karaoke bar (in Nghi Huong ward, Cua Lo town) owned by Hoang Van Viet to sing and drink beer.
At around 9:30 p.m. the same day, Hoang Van Viet, Hoang Van Anh and Nguyen Van Hoa pooled money to buy drugs for use. At 10 p.m. the same day, Nhat sold many drug pills to Hoa for 6 million VND.
After buying the drugs, Hoa gave them to her friends to use in a karaoke room. While they were using the drugs, the task force raided and caught them red-handed.
The investigation agency determined that Thai must bear criminal responsibility for buying and selling 2.62 grams of drugs, and Nhat must bear responsibility for 1.36 grams of drugs.
At the trial, the defendants admitted to their crimes. Defendants Viet, Anh, and Hoa said that after drinking alcohol, they invited each other to buy drugs to use.
The two defendants, Thai and Nhat, admitted to buying and selling drugs for profit. Defendant Thai said he had previously bought 15 million VND worth of drugs from an unknown man. Thai then contacted Nhat to ask him to sell the drugs for him. On the evening of January 20, Nhat sold the drugs to Viet's group to buy for their own use.
After considering the role of each defendant in the case, the panel sentenced Hoang Van Viet to 4 years and 5 months in prison for organizing illegal drug use. For the same crime, defendant Anh received a sentence of 4 years and 3 months in prison, and defendant Hoa received a sentence of 4 years in prison.
For the crime of illegal drug trafficking, defendant Thai was sentenced to 27 months in prison, defendant Nhat received a sentence of 24 months in prison.
