SEA Games 29: Gold hopes on August 23

Vietnam has the potential to win about 6 gold medals today (August 23), includingAnh Vien, Quy Phuoc,Tu Chinh, athletes in singles, shooting, men's sabre and women's sabre.

Swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien competed in two events. But while the 100m freestyle is her forte and the basis for her to compete for a gold medal, the 50m butterfly is an event that the "Little Mermaid" is not strong at.

Also in swimming, Quy Phuoc will swim the 200m freestyle today, the event in which he won a gold medal and holds the SEA Games record from the event two years ago. This could be an opportunity for the Da Nang swimmer to ease the sadness of his first day of swimming, when he failed to qualify for the men's 400m freestyle and 50m butterfly events.

Quy Phuoc achieved the second best result among the eight athletes in the 200m freestyle final. This is an event in which the Da Nang swimmer is the defending champion and holds the SEA Games record with a time of 1 minute 48 seconds 96, set in Singapore two years ago.

After being crowned "queen" of the 100m event on August 21, Tu Chinh is expected to continue conquering the remaining prestigious event - women's 200m - for Vietnamese athletics. The hope of Vietnamese athletics today also includes Tran Hue Hoa (triple jump), Vu Thi Ly and Duong Van Thai (800m run), Bui Van Su (decathlon)...

In fencing, Vietnam today has two strong events in which we are the defending SEA Games champions, including women's sabre (Bich Ngoc, Thu Ha) and men's sabre (Nhat Minh, Tien Nhat).

Gymnastics continues to compete in individual events today, but hopes are only on the male athletes.

Shooting has Ha Minh Thanh in the men's 25m rapid fire pistol event, while Japanese-Vietnamese shooter Iwaki Ai in the rifle event promises to be an unknown quantity in the women's 10m air rifle event, in her first time participating in the SEA Games.
