Fast & Furious series spent 520 million USD on destroying cars

An insurance company calculated the total cost of damage caused by the seven blockbuster "Fast & Furious" movies, especially to the cars.

The insurance company Insure The Gap (UK) said that the majority of the damage was caused by the destruction or damage to cars and buildings during the filming process. Of these, 169 "regular" cars were damaged and 142 were completely destroyed. In addition, 37 "special" cars were also destroyed, the most expensive being the Lykan Hypersport supercar from W Motors, with an estimated value of 3.4 million USD.

Another interesting thing is that the majority of the damage was caused by the heroes in this blockbuster series, with about 325 million USD, while the bad characters only "contributed" about 194 million USD.

The report also said that after "2 Fast 2 Furious" (2003), the sequel "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" (2009) caused less damage because it focused on street racing instead of explosions.

*High speed chase scene in "Fast Five":

But from "Fast Five" (2011) onwards, the numbers skyrocketed as directors favored blockbuster action scenes and each installment tried to surpass the previous in terms of grandeur, high-speed chases and destruction (dropping cars from planes).

Insure The Gap even calculated how much damage each character was responsible for in the total damage of this action series. Accordingly, the character Deckard Shaw (played by Jason Statham) caused the most damage with an estimated amount of 185 million USD, even though he only appeared in one episode, "Furious 7" (2015).

* Trailer "The Fate of the Furious":

The latest installment of "The Fate of the Furious" is scheduled to hit theaters in the US on April 14. Part 8 has a budget of over $200 million, showing off a series of explosions with over 50 cars destroyed in just the first trailer.
