Vinh University students open free English classes
(Baonghean.vn) - More than 40 volunteers in the ELAC club, Vinh University, organized free English classes to help poor students in the school.
In 2014, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulated that university and college students must have a B1 English certificate to be eligible to graduate. Many students have spent a lot of money to study English at centers or hire tutors. However, poor students do not have the opportunity to access high-quality English classes.

In order to help poor students, in September 2016, the English Learning Assistance Club (ELAC) of students of the Faculty of English Education was established. The club has more than 40 members who teach English without charge. The class helps non-major students, especially those in difficult circumstances, to improve their grammar and four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Free classes take place at 7pm every day, each class has 1 lecturer and 2 to 3 assistants. Class size ranges from 25 to 30 people.

Tran Thi Phuong Thao, a student of class 56, majoring in English Pedagogy - Club leader, said: "Since joining the class, non-major students have become more confident and bold when practicing English skills, many of them have passed the B1 exam."
"Currently, the club is divided into 3 subject groups: group "G" specializes in grammar, group "C" specializes in communication, group "B" specializes in B1 English exam preparation. This division helps students know which skills they are weak in so they can register for the appropriate class. In addition, lecturers can grasp the academic performance of the students in the class, thereby designing better quality lectures," Phuong Thao added.
In the near future, the Club will continue to recruit students and expand its scope of activities so that poor students have the opportunity to improve their English learning skills.
