A university in Jiangxi province (China) has allowed new students to choose their favorite lecturer.

Starting this year, students majoring in metallurgy and chemical engineering at Jiangxi University of Science and Technology can exercise their right to choose their lecturers before starting their four years of university.Students can choose lecturers according to age, gender and teaching style.

“I was immediately attracted to this option because it meets the needs of young people,” said freshman Ding Yanjun. “I chose a young female lecturer as my homeroom teacher because she would probably be more attentive than the male teachers.”

“I never thought I could choose my own lecturers and I was really excited about it. It shows that the school cares about the students and we need to study harder,” said Xie Yu.

The school reportedly received 180 requests for faculty on the first day of classes. The results showed that 70% of freshmen wanted faculty who were fun and had a positive attitude, while 65% preferred faculty aged 25-40.

To meet the diverse needs of students, the school assigned a series of young, highly educated lecturers to teach. Finally, female student Ding Yanjun was assigned to a class led by a 9x female teacher.

Young teachers can help the school know more about students' requirements, said Xu Zhifeng, head of the Department of Metallurgy and Chemical Engineering. And in this way, teachers can work better with students.
