With the home field advantage and the mobility of Phi Son and foreign player Olaha, SLNA were quite proactive in the first 20 minutes. In a very normal attack, Van Quyet "attacked left and right" in the midst of SLNA defenders and then created a delicious opportunity for Hung Dung to make a powerful shot near the 16m50 line, defeating goalkeeper Nguyen Manh. Hanoi's opening goal forced SLNA to quickly find an equalizer in the following situations.
Before finding a way into goalkeeper Van Cong's goal, SLNA had to concede another goal in the 28th minute. This time from the right wing, captain Van Quyet continued to cross the ball as if placing it for defender Van Dung to comfortably place it in the middle of the penalty area, raising the score to 2 - 0. Notably, this was Hanoi's third attack since the beginning of the match.

Despite conceding two quick goals, SLNA did not give up in their search for an equalizer before the end of the first half. And the tireless efforts of coach Duc Thang's players paid off in the 43rd minute. From a chaotic situation in the visitors' penalty area, Vo Ngoc Toan had a decisive shot from close range, defeating Van Cong, reducing the score to 2-1. This was also the final score of the first 45 minutes.
After the break, SLNA regained their spirits and continuously created dangerous situations in front of Hanoi goalkeeper Van Cong's goal. First was a free kick combination from outside the 16m50 box by Khac Ngoc. Then, Van Duc made a smart escape, facing the opposing goalkeeper, but the striker's powerful shot hit the crossbar, to the regret of Nghe An fans in the 56th minute.

In the first minutes of the second half, SLNA played with excitement, causing thousands of fans to create a passionate atmosphere at Vinh Stadium. In this context, Coach Nguyen Duc Thang immediately sent defender Ngoc Duc to the left wing position and Xuan Manh was pushed to play on the right wing in an attacking direction. This partly helped SLNA create significant pressure on Hanoi's field.
At the same time, striker Danko was also brought in to replace Ho Phuc Tinh in the hope of finding more goals. The second half was extremely dramatic and tense, with many fouls and lying on the ground, and Hanoi captain Van Quyet received a yellow card from the referee.

With only about 10 minutes left in the match, the drama was heightened, Hanoi retreated to defend to preserve the score. The match saw more and more situations of lying on the field and wasting time by the white team. Since entering the field, striker Danko has not left much of an impression and has not been able to coordinate well with striker Olaha.
Not only were SLNA strikers unlucky with goals, in the 89th minute, even a defender, Hoang Van Khanh, headed the ball against the post while joining the attack. Too many situations on the field caused the referee to add 5 minutes of extra time. However, that was not enough time for SLNA to salvage a draw.
The 1-2 loss at home made SLNA sink deeper in the rankings with 17 points. A match full of effort and missed opportunities by coach Nguyen Duc Thang and his team only made Nghe An fans more disappointed and not very optimistic before SLNA visits Da Nang in the next round on September 15.
