(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An Department of Transport has just sent an official dispatch to the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Provincial People's Committee to consider recognizing martyrs for 2 officers who died in an accident while on duty.

The content of the dispatch affirmed: On July 16 and 17, 2017, storm No. 2 with strong intensity and heavy rain over a wide area directly affected the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh, in which Nghe An province was located in the center of the storm.

Due to the impact of the storm, Nghe An province suffered heavy damage to people and property, many traffic routes were eroded and flooded, causing serious traffic jams.

In particular, the section of National Highway 16 in Que Phong and Tuong Duong districts (mountainous districts with rugged terrain and extremely difficult socio-economic conditions) has many landslides causing traffic jams that need to be urgently handled.

Implementing the urgent dispatch dated June 28, 2017 of the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam on Proactively responding to widespread heavy rain, on July 17, 2017, Nghe An Department of Transport coordinated with the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam, Department of Road Management 2 and BDTX Management Units to handle and respond urgently to landslides and traffic jams on roads in the western region of Nghe An, including National Highway 16.

While traveling on National Highway 16, due to the influence of heavy rain and slippery roads, the car carrying Mr. Thai Huy Hao - Deputy Head of Technical Planning Department of the Project Management Board of KTGT Career Capital under Nghe An Department of Transport and Mr. Pham Van Chung - Deputy Director of Trung Tin Joint Stock Company (BDTX Management Unit) lost control and plunged into the abyss in Xop Chao area, Dong Van commune, Que Phong district.

Although local authorities and the Working Group immediately deployed rescue work, two traffic officers died.

The sacrifice of 2 comrades in directing the unit to overcome the landslide on Highway 16 caused by storm No. 2. The Department of Transport promptly coordinated with local authorities to quickly recover the bodies and organize funerals for 2 comrades Thai Huy Hao and Pham Van Chung.
