Afraid his wife would go to work abroad, he killed her.
When his wife returned from working abroad in Korea for 20 years, Chau did not want her to continue working so that he could stay home and take care of the family. However, when his wife did not say anything, he was afraid that she would continue working, so he cruelly murdered her.
On the morning of August 16, the People's Court of Ha Tinh province opened the first instance trial of defendant Le Hai Chau (born 1958), residing in Cuong Gian commune, Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh province, for the crime of "Murder".
According to the indictment, Le Hai Chau married Ms. Chu Thi Ha (born in 1963), residing in Cuong Gian commune, and had 4 children together. In 1999, Ms. Ha went to work in Korea.
By the end of 2018, when his wife returned to attend their second son's wedding, Mr. Chau wanted Mrs. Ha to stay home and not go abroad anymore to take care of the family, but Mrs. Ha remained silent.

On February 18, 2019, Ms. Ha discussed with Mr. Chau that she would take her sick eldest son to Hanoi for a check-up and then go to Khanh Hoa to visit her daughter for a few days. Thinking that his wife was planning to leave without taking care of him, who was suffering from a stroke, Mr. Chau was upset and intended to kill his wife.
Thinking and doing, at dawn the next day, Mr. Chau went down to the kitchen, took two knives and went into the bedroom. Seeing Mrs. Ha lying on the bed, he used the knife to attack her neck and hands, taking her life. After killing his wife, Mr. Chau went to Cuong Gian beach to commit suicide but was discovered by the people, prevented, and brought to the commune police station to surrender.
At the trial, Mr. Chau repeatedly expressed remorse, saying that he was angry and could not control himself and killed his wife, leaving his children helpless. He hoped the court would reduce his sentence so that he could return home soon to take care of his family.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant's actions were particularly serious, and that he had killed his wife out of selfishness, so he needed to be isolated from society for a long period of time as a deterrent. After considering the circumstances, the panel sentenced the defendant Chau to 20 years in prison for "Murder".
