The "Referee Board" incident and the 8th Congress of VFF

(Baonghean.vn) - "The regulation that the Head of the Referee Board must be a member of the VFF Executive Committee only exists in Vietnam, not in foreign countries. FIFA and AFC require the Head of the Referee Executive Board to be a good expert" - a former referee discussed with VFF President Le Hung Dung.

Not used to apologizing

Vietnamese referees are quite strange. When there is an incident, they always stick to FIFA's regulations, which is the "rule of silence" and make excuses, "referees are also human, so they can make mistakes." However, there are things that foreign referees often do after incidents that they do not learn.

Recently, famous English football referee Mike Dean admitted his mistake in deciding to award a penalty to West Brom in the match against Arsenal on December 31.The referee made a formal apology to Arsene Wenger, immediately after the match ended. Before that, he had seen a slow-motion video of the incident in which he believed Arsenal's Callum Chambers handled the ball.

Meanwhile, 1 week after the match between S.Khanh Hoa and HAGL, referee Nguyen Van Kien still did not say a word to HAGL when the video clearly showed that S.Khanh Hoa's foreign player was not affected by the Pho Nui defender!

Vietnamese referees do not have the habit of “apologizing”, even when they are clearly wrong. The referee board also remained silent, they did not make any official statement, remaining silent so that VPF could issue a notice to “cease cooperation” with both the offending referee and the referee boss.

How do I make you believe?

Deputy referee Duong Van Hien said that he became a referee supervisor to understand his colleagues better. People in the profession "laughed coldly" because if he wanted to understand his fellow referees, the boss would just "go undercover" - which means no compensation and no need to sit in the referee supervisor's chair!

A referee exposed: Mr. Hien assigned himself to more matches than usual, single-handedly "taking" the role of supervisor of the international U.21 and U.19 youth tournaments. Such a lack of impartiality makes it difficult to win the hearts of his comrades. But because of the need to make a living and being bullied, no one dared to speak up, no one dared to strongly object!

Although VPF has issued a document refusing to work with 2 referees and 1 referee supervisor, the Referee Board still "try to force the issue" by claiming that the assignment of referees and supervision of the National Cup has been in place and cannot be changed.

Only when hearing "unpleasant" news, VFF President Le Hung Dung himself stipulated that the head and deputy head of the committee would temporarily not directly participate in supervising referees in matches, then a few hours before, the deputy head of the referee committee shot the news that "he would no longer be a supervisor". How could the referees believe that!

Talk about hurt

When involved in scandals, referee bosses often talk about self-respect, but in reality, after many times of boasting about Vietnamese referees who are known as “bullets indestructible”, they still hold out their hands for several million dong and end up in jail. Who is hurt? The audience, the referees or the players?

It was not until Mr. Tu became the head of the V-League Organizing Committee that the boycott of referees with "strange whistles" was thoroughly implemented. Photo: Internet

2004 - 2005 period, Mr. Le Phuoc Vu - Chairman of Hoa Sen Groupsponsoring the Ton Hoa Sen Can Tho football team and there was a scandal related to the refereeing work with two clubs (Ton Hoa Sen Can Tho and Dong A Bank - Pomina Steel). Before giving up football, Mr. Vu stated: "I affirm that if Ton Hoa Sen withdraws, then the negative referees will be largely responsible for that"!

V-League 2011, VFF Referee Board decided to remove 3 referees: Tran Cong Trong, Nguyen Van Quyet, Do Quoc Hoai from football life. If referee Hoai was due to the scandals in his life, the other two were involved in the incident of blowing the whistle on the opponent, helping Hai Phong stay in the league, causing Mr. Long's Hoa Phat to be frustrated and quit football. Mr. Kien spoke out: Someone sent me a message saying that if I had 500 million VND to take care of the referee, the team would definitely win this match!

I don't understand, at that time, where were the referee bosses that didn't stand up to confront, talk about respect, and then the fact that they weren't invited to be a supervisor with a salary of 8 million VND/match was considered "serious damage"?

In accordance with international practice

Mr. Mui announced his “farewell to arms” after the 8th Congress of VFF. Mr. Duong Van Hien - the current deputy head of the board and also a candidate for the VFF Executive Committee. However, after the recent scandals, does Mr. Hien still have enough prestige to take on the responsibility of running the Referee Board? It is expected that VPF will continue to send a proposal to VFF regarding the leadership of VFF’s functional departments, including the Referee Board, without having to be a member of the Executive Committee.

According to international practice, VFF should implement a mechanism that allows them to invite or hire good personnel to hold the position of head of the referee board. After a period of re-evaluation, those who do not perform well will be dismissed, and those who perform well will be promoted.
