When it senses low light conditions such as when entering a tunnel or when it is dark, the headlights will automatically turn on. Automatic headlights on cars are now common with many cars being integrated as standard equipment.

"According to Decree 46/2016/ND-CP on administrative sanctions in the field of road and railway traffic, the violation of not turning on headlights when participating in traffic at night will be specifically regulated for cars and motorbikes. For drivers who violate this violation, they will be fined from 600,000 - 800,000 VND according to Point G, Clause 3, Article 5 of the Decree". However, not everyone who gets into the car pays attention to whether it is time to turn on the lights or not, while many drivers carefully turn on the lights very early, before the time.

To better understand how the automatic light system works, helping drivers avoid risks when turning at night or in low light conditions.

Location

The automatic headlight switch cluster is installed on the left side of the steering wheel, usually integrated with the high-beam and low-beam control switches. In addition, the automatic light system has a photoelectric sensor that detects light conditions and is installed close to the lower edge of the front windshield.

Uses

When the automatic light control sensor determines the lighting angle of the surrounding lights and the light control switch is in the Auto position (or OFF position for vehicles without the Auto position), it will transmit a signal to the light control unit, which will turn on the taillights and then the headlights depending on the ambient lighting level.

The automatic light system also has the function of turning on the taillights but not the headlights for a short time when it becomes dark for a short period of time, such as when the vehicle is driving under a bridge or under a road with many trees, but the surrounding light is still bright. However, if after a period of time the ambient light is still lower than the specified value, the headlights will turn on.

Working principle

There are two types of automatic light control. There are automatic light control sensors and light control units arranged together, or the type with taillights and headlights controlled at the same time.

When the automatic light control sensor determines the ambient light level, it will emit a pulse signal from the light controller. The light controller will then evaluate the decrease in light intensity and activate the rear light and headlight relays (switches) to turn on these lights.

Conversely, when the lamp controller senses an increase in light intensity, the taillights and headlights turn off.
