Subaru Forester priced from 1.4 billion - CX-5 competitor in Vietnam

The American-style Japanese SUV launched a new version with some minor design upgrades, still keeping the old engine.

Subaru distributor in Vietnam simultaneously introduced the new Forester and Outback duo to customers in Hanoi on April 15. As is Subaru's tradition, the new models do not have many changes in design.

The small SUV Forester looks similar to the old version, with a few differences in the fog lights and convex mirror LED headlights. The Forester's appearance is more for the highway than for the urban look.

With a wheelbase of 2,640 mm and a 5-seat interior, the Forester is in the same segment as the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5 or Nissan X-Trail, but with a completely different trend, more masculine and stronger.

As is the company's tradition, the Forester uses a 2-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine (H4: horizontally opposed), turbocharged, direct fuel injection for a capacity of 237 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and torque of 350 Nm at 2,400-3,600 rpm. The fuel consumption announced by the company is 8.6 liters/100 km of mixed road.

Another Subaru strength that is also used in the Forester is Symmetrical AWD. The CVT automatic transmission has virtual gears with paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

Forester has 2 versions, 2.0iL and 2.0XT. Amenities on the high-end 2.0XT version include automatic wipers, headlight washers, electric mirrors, electric folding, automatic headlights that adjust according to steering angle, electric sunroof. The car also has an 8-way electric driver's seat, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling, 3 driving modes I, S and S#; 7-inch touch screen, 2-zone automatic air conditioning, cruise control.

Safety technology on the car includes 7 airbags, ABS brakes, EBD, BA, VSC electronic balance, X-Mode steering system to support going uphill, rough roads, sensors and rear camera.

Forester 2.0iL costs 1.4 billion while the high-end 2.0XT version costs 1.666 billion. This price is one and a half times higher than other Japanese competitors in the market. However, Subaru always positions itself in a separate place, although in the same segment but not in direct competition. Subaru's target customers are not ordinary but mostly those who understand and prefer the proud technologies of Japanese car companies following American trends such as boxer engines or 4-wheel drive systems.
