TASS quoted the Regional Information Portal as saying that Syrian government army soldiers have recaptured the key city of Sheikh-Miskin in the south of the capital Damascus, the gateway to the routes leading to the southern provinces of Daraa, Al-Quneitra and As-Suwayda.

The three-day offensive killed 50 rebels and wounded 250 others.

The Syrian Army Command expressed hope that regaining control of Sheikh-Miskin would enable it to block all supply channels to rebel groups operating south of Damascus that extend all the way to the border with Jordan.

Earlier the same day, the Syrian Air Force carried out airstrikes on the strongholds of groups in the town of Aazaz, bordering Turkey, as well as a base of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization north of Aleppo city.

“The terrorists suffered many casualties and damage to their equipment,” the Syrian army press release said.
