Why can't Russia and Syria intercept US Tomahawks?

Military expert Vasily Kashin told Sputnik that with such a large number of cruise missiles, it is impossible to protect the Shayrat base with the air defense means that Russia and Syria possess in the area.

The distance from the Russian S-300VM and S-400 air defense missile systems located at the two bases in Tartus and Hmeymim to Shayrat is considerable, almost 100 km. The range of low-flying cruise missiles is limited to only a few dozen kilometers. The capabilities of the Russian fighter jets present in Syria are not enough to intercept such a large attack, and Syrian air defense missiles are weak.

The Americans know they can hit Shayrat with cruise missiles at any time and nothing will stand against them.
