Driver who ran over and killed a traffic police major turned himself in

After a day in hiding, Tran Manh Thong (25 years old), the driver who ran over and killed a Dong Nai traffic police major, has turned himself in.

On the afternoon of April 16, Tran Manh Thong (25 years old, from Ha Tinh) turned himself in at Long Binh Tan Ward Police Station (Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai) after a day of hiding because he ran over and killed Major Le Quang Minh (41 years old, PC67 Department, Dong Nai Police) with a truck.

"He turned himself in after being persuaded by his mother," the investigator said, adding that he had taken Thong to Bien Hoa City Police to continue taking statements and investigating.

Last night, Thong drove a truck carrying pigs from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City for consumption. When arriving at Vung Tau Intersection (Bien Hoa), the vehicle was signaled to stop for inspection by a patrolling traffic police team, but the driver did not comply.

After running for more than a kilometer, the truck stopped in front of the Dong Nai Bridge toll station to wait for a ticket. At this time, Major Minh was caught up by a man in plain clothes on a motorbike.

Mr. Minh asked the driver to get off the bus but he did not cooperate. After a few minutes of arguing, Thong stepped on the gas and drove away. The traffic police major held onto the left rearview mirror and asked the driver to stop, but slipped and fell, was run over by the car and died on the spot.

After leaving the car, Thong was chased by people so he jumped into the Dong Nai River and swam to shore to escape.

On the same afternoon, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son - Deputy Minister of Public Security worked with Dong Nai Police, requesting a quick investigation to clarify the incident. The Deputy Minister visited Major Minh and encouraged and visited the victim's family.

The leader of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee said that they are waiting for the investigation conclusion to prepare documents to consider recognizing Major Minh as a martyr./.
