Early the same morning, Mr. Hong (39 years old) was driving a taxi on Tran Hung Dao Street (District 1) when Duy waved the car and asked to take him to the University of Technical Education in Thu Duc District. On the way, the young man kept fidgeting.
After a few kilometers, Duy asked the driver to pull over to a building on Mai Chi Tho Street (District 2) to pick up his friend. He called several times but could not speak to anyone.
Not agreeing to wait too long, Mr. Hong asked the customer to pay so he could go home and change shifts. Duy said the driver would pay if he continued to Thu Duc.
Just passing Binh Thai intersection (District 9), Duy suddenly jumped up, put a rope around Hong's neck, tightened it, and forced the car to pull over.
