Tan Ky: Sugarcane is focused on investment for sustainable output

On the PQ tangerine field in Tan Long commune, Mr. Vo Hong Diem, Director of Song Con Agricultural Joint Stock Company, shared: This year, the company's oranges and tangerines have lost revenue because they are difficult to sell. 1 kg of tangerines in the field is only 2,000 VND but there are still no buyers. In recent months, in the area, agricultural products such as oranges, tangerines, squash, vegetables, chicken eggs... are all very difficult to sell, but the output of sugarcane is still stable, bringing high income to the staff and workers of the company receiving land for production.

Sharing about the benefits of sugarcane, Mr. Diem said: To achieve high efficiency, the Company strictly implements intensive cultivation to increase sugarcane productivity according to the instructions of Song Con Sugar Factory. Sugarcane cultivation is carried out on large contiguous fields to mechanize all stages from land preparation, planting, care, and harvesting. In addition, many new sugarcane varieties with high productivity are introduced into cultivation such as: LK3, Du Mong, LK92-11...

In 2021, Song Con Agricultural Joint Stock Company has 376 hectares of sugarcane, with an average yield of 85 tons/ha. According to calculations, currently only sugarcane and rubber provide stable income, however, rubber requires a waiting period and sometimes even falls. The company is currently continuing to develop a new area of ​​800 hectares of sugarcane according to the plan/total 2,119 hectares of production land of the Company.

1 hectare of newly planted sugarcane requires 10 tons of seeds, 500 kg of lime, NPK fertilizer, 1 hectare costs 20 million VND, in the first year, after deducting all production costs, the producer still makes a profit of about 20 million VND/ha, but in the following years, the profit reaches more than 50 million VND/ha. This is the most sustainable income among the current crops in Tan Ky. Especially, there is no need to worry about output because there is a factory to consume.

To achieve that goal, in recent years, the Company has implemented many high-yield sugarcane intensive farming models, applying 100% mechanization, using new sugarcane varieties.

Many households that received land from a large sugarcane production company, such as Hoang Van Viet in Ho Thanh hamlet, planted 3.3 hectares of new sugarcane this season, in addition to 0.6 hectares of sugarcane left over. Last year, his family's sugarcane yielded 70 tons/hectare, and with that area, this year's income minus expenses is estimated to be more than 100 million VND.

Many other households such as Ms. Luong Thi Xuan, Ho Thanh unit, planted 1.5 hectares, sugarcane yield reached over 90 tons/ha, Nguyen Van Hoa household, had 1.9 hectares, yield reached 85 tons/ha, Ms. Mai Thi Thanh household, had 1.7 hectares, sugarcane yield reached 90 tons/ha.

With that income level along with other crops such as rubber, corn... households have a stable annual income.

Mr. Nguyen Sy Hai - Head of Raw Material Production Department of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company said: In the 2019 - 2020 crop year and this year, the Company continues to use land from people who grow ineffective crops to develop contiguous fields. Currently, it has rented 17 hectares of agricultural land from people in Nghia Dong commune to grow intensive sugarcane, using the new sugarcane variety LK 92-11. Besides, there are many other models in Giai Xuan, Tan Xuan, Dong Van communes...

The implementation of inter-regional, contiguous plot models and the application of 100% mechanization together with professional sugarcane growers such as companies, cooperatives, and large contract owners is a professional production trend that helps the Company reduce procedures and helps people connect faster with the factory. In which, the Sugar Factory is a strategic investor and the parties carry out economic contracts for sugarcane production.

Currently, Song Con Sugar Factory has more than 6,000 hectares of sugarcane and thanks to favorable weather, the sugarcane is growing well, the machine-cut sugarcane grows evenly, and the farmers take good care of it, promising a high-yield sugarcane crop. Sugarcane can still be highly effective if cultivated intensively, with new varieties that are high-yielding and disease-free.
