Sentence increased for young man who beat to death his adopted neighbor
(Baonghean.vn) - For the crime of murder, Lu Quy Hung was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the court of first instance. Believing that the sentence for the defendant was too light, the High People's Procuracy in Hanoi has appealed to increase the sentence.
The victim in the case is Mr. Kha Van Ng. (born in 1973) - a relative of Hung. Mr. Ng. is a person who speaks with a lisp, cannot speak clearly, and is still fed by Hung's family every day.
At noon on October 7, 2019, Lu Quy Hung was drying rice at his father-in-law's house when Mr. Ng walked up, pointed, cursed and threatened to beat Hung.

Knowing that Mr. Ng. was a person who could not speak clearly, Hung kept quiet. Hung used his hand to signal Mr. Ng. to go somewhere else. This man did not go but picked up a rock and took out a lighter to light it, at the same time pointing to Hung's father-in-law's house.
Seeing Mr. Ng. sitting on a stone bench in front of the grocery store, Hung stopped his car and hit Mr. Ng. on the head with a wooden stick. Although the victim was rushed to the emergency room, he died the following afternoon. The cause of Mr. Ng.'s death was determined to be a fractured skull and a brain hemorrhage due to trauma.
The court of first instance in early 2020 sentenced Lu Quy Hung to 12 years in prison for murder.
After the first instance verdict, Hung did not appeal, but the High People's Procuracy in Hanoi appealed to increase the sentence for the defendant because it believed that the first instance verdict for Hung was too lenient.
At court, the defendant pleaded to confess honestly and ask for a lighter sentence. However, considering that the appeal of the People's Procuracy was well-founded, the appellate court decided to amend the first instance judgment, increase the sentence for the defendant, and sentenced Lu Quy Hung to 13 years in prison for murder.
