Three-ton Lego ship sets world record

The world's largest Lego ship is 13 metres long and weighs three tonnes, made from more than one million pieces.

Popular Mechanics reported yesterday that to celebrate its 150th anniversary, the Danish shipping company DFDS in Copenhagen decided to build the world's largest ship out of Lego, plastic building blocks that can be assembled together. The ship, named Jubilee Seaways, has been officially recognized by the Guinness World Records Organization.

It took 7,000 people from 20 different countries more than 900 hours to build the ship. Jubilee Seaways is 13 metres long, 2.7 metres high and weighs more than three tonnes, including its half-tonne steel frame. In total, more than a million Lego bricks were used to build the ship.

Over the next few weeks, Jubilee Seaways will be touring across Europe, starting in Gothenburg, Sweden, and ending in London and Dover, UK.
