While fishing in the Truong Sa sea area, a fishing boat of fishermen from Quang Ngai suddenly had a water break and sank into the sea, leaving 15 crew members adrift.
On the afternoon of October 3, the Nha Trang Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center IV said that the unit received news that a Quang Ngai fishing boat owned by Mr. Nguyen Van Duc (47 years old) had been damaged and sunk into the sea this afternoon.
The ship was in distress about 28 nautical miles from Truong Sa Dong Island. The 15 crew members on board tried to fix the problem, but were unsuccessful. They are drifting and in a state of panic.
According to the family, the fishing boat departed nearly 2 weeks ago and they have not been able to contact the crew.
The Navy's Ship 732 was dispatched to search and rescue the fishermen. The Vietnam Coastal Information System sent out a notice to units and asked ships in the area to increase their search and rescue efforts.
