Vietnam's Kilo submarine is the second strongest in Russia's arsenal

According to Business Insider Magazine, after the S-300 missile, Vietnam's Kilo submarine deserves to be ranked second in terms of the most powerful weapon produced by Russia.

According to the American magazine's ranking, the top of the list is the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system, capable of attacking ground-based and airborne targets at various distances. The author of the compilation notes that the system can direct 12 missiles at the target. "The S-300 can shoot down six aircraft at once," the document says.

Next in line is the Novorossiysk diesel-electric submarine of the Warszawianka project. Thanks to the low-visibility technology used in the design of this submarine, it is almost impossible to detect underwater.

It is known that both weapons at the top of the American magazine's rankings are currently in service with the Vietnamese military. Along with the Business Insider article, another American magazine also analyzed and commented that the Vietnamese Navy's submarines are the strongest in the Kilo submarine line produced by Russia.

According to News Week magazine, first of all, Vietnam's Kilo submarines are equipped with the Club-S missile system that can attack many different types of targets with a range of up to 300km. This weapon system is only sold by Russia to Vietnam and two other countries, India and Algeria.

The second difference is that the Vietnamese Kilo submarines are equipped with the latest GE2-01 multi-function complex navigation radar. This type of radar is not exported to China, its biggest advantage is to minimize noise in the water environment and help diversify navigation methods.

The third difference is the sonar system: China's Kilo 636 MK submarine is equipped with only the basic MGK 400E sonar system. Meanwhile, the Kilo 636 MV submarine is equipped with the improved MGK 400E sonar system. These two sonar systems have the same detection range, but the improved MGK 400E sonar system is equipped with a high-speed, multi-function signal processor and has a higher level of digitalization.

The fourth difference is the periscope system: although the Kilo 636MK and Kilo 636MV submarines are both equipped with optical reconnaissance systems, the periscope used for attack missions of the Kilo 636 MV submarine is additionally equipped with a laser rangefinder and a TV and IR monitoring system.

Meanwhile, the Kilo 636MK submarine mainly uses optical aiming and does not have a laser rangefinder. That means the night combat capability and attack accuracy of the Kilo 636MV submarine will be higher than the Kilo 636MK submarine.

The final difference pointed out by the American newspaper is that the air conditioning system used by the Kilo 636MV submarine is more suitable for tropical climate and terrain, while the Chinese Kilo 636MK submarine does not have this system.

After the flag-raising ceremony on February 28 at Cam Ranh port (Khanh Hoa), the last two Kilo submarines 186 named Da Nang and 187 named Ba Ria Vung Tau will join the combat formation of Brigade 189 and increase the Navy's submarine strength to 6 Kilo submarines.
