We are talking about the project 094A Jin submarine, which was introduced on April 30, at the celebration of the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Navy.

The submarine is capable of carrying the latest JL-3 intercontinental solid-fuel missiles, with an operational range exceeding 10 thousand kilometers, and according to some estimates up to 12 thousand kilometers.

Chinese submarines are believed to be able to launch long-range ballistic missiles that can reach the United States.

“The 094A submarine is a modernized version of the 094 submarine, which during its construction solved one of the important problems related to noise by improving the hydrodynamic and turbulence systems. This allows the submarine to carry the more powerful JL-3 missile,” the newspaper quoted one of the interlocutors as saying.

The source noted that before the modernization, this type of submarine was equipped with less powerful JL-2 missiles, which could only hit targets in the northeastern part of the United States. Now, its weapons are capable of covering the entire continental United States.

According to experts, the JL-3 missile, like the previous version, is capable of carrying multiple nuclear warheads.

The Chinese Navy currently has six Project 094 submarines of various versions, and will build two more of this type to replace the outdated Type 092 boats.
