(Baonghean.vn) - Being persuaded by her sister to find someone to sell to China for money, Mai immediately colluded with her accomplices and actively searched for "prey". After selling the victim, her sister took the money and fled, while Mai and her accomplices were arrested.

On the morning of September 6, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendants Lu Thi Mai (born 1978), residing in Huoi Tho village, Huu Kiem commune, and Ven Van Thao (born 1992), residing in Cha Lan village, Huu Lap commune, Ky Son district, for the crime of "Human trafficking".

According to the investigation agency's documents, in early October 2015, Mai's older sister, Lu Thi Khuon, came to her house and told her to "find someone for me to take to China to get married. If you find a young man, I will give you 40 million VND, and if you find an old, ugly man, 30 million VND." Mai agreed.

About 20 days later, when Thao came to visit, Mai immediately said: "Do you know anyone who wants to go to China? If you find someone, I will give you 5 million VND." Thao agreed and promised to find someone.

Around October 2015, Ms. Mong Thi Duong (born in 1978), residing in Cha Lan village, Huu Lap commune, came to visit Thao's house. Here, Duong proactively asked Thao: "Do you know anyone who takes people to China?". Thao then called Mai to inform her that she had found the person, Ms. Duong, and made an appointment to pick her up the next afternoon. Mai agreed.

The next afternoon, Thao met Ms. Duong and said, “Let’s just walk through the forest, I’m afraid we’ll be discovered if we ride a motorbike.” Ms. Duong agreed to pack her clothes and walk with Thao to the Xop Thap intersection in Huu Lap commune. There, they met Mai.

At this time, Mai met Thao privately and said, "Don't worry, I'll take Duong home to catch a bus to China. When Duong gets married, I'll send you money."

When she got home, Mai immediately informed her sister that she had found someone but said he was “a bit old”. Khuon immediately replied, “Don’t worry, when they find a husband, I will give them 30 million VND”.

About 5 days later, Khuon went to Mai's house to take Ms. Duong to Vinh city, then took a bus to Mong Cai city (Quang Ninh) and crossed the border to China. In a foreign country, Ms. Duong was taken to the house of a woman named Tien (from Ky Son district, currently married to a Chinese man).

About 27 days later, Tien sold Duong to a Chinese man to marry for 50,000 yuan (equivalent to 150 million VND). After selling the woman, how much Tien gave Khuon is currently unknown because Khuon is on the run. Lu Thi Khuon has not yet given money to Mai and Thao as originally promised.

As for the victim, after a period of living there, on March 3, 2019, Ms. Mong Thi Duong escaped back to Vietnam. On March 7, 2019, Ms. Duong wrote a complaint to the Ky Son District Police.

In court, the defendants admitted to the crimes as charged and stated that they had not received any money from this human trafficking deal. The defendants expressed their sincerity and asked for a lighter sentence so they could return to their families and children.

Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced Lu Thi Mai and Ven Van Thao to three years in prison each for the crime of “Human trafficking”.

In this case, Lu Thi Khuon fled the area after committing the crime, and the Ky Son District Police Department issued a wanted notice. The authorities have separated the case against Lu Thi Khuon and will handle it later when she is arrested.
