US federal judge blocks Trump's second immigration ban

A US federal judge in Hawaii has issued an emergency block on Trump's new travel ban, just hours before it was set to take effect.

US federal judge Derrick Watson has urgently blocked the executive order signed by US President Trump on March 6. Mr. Trump wants to ban citizens from six major Muslim countries from entering the US for 90 days and stop the entire refugee program for 120 days.

Judge Watson said the state of Hawaii had shown a strong likelihood of success in its claim that the order violated the U.S. Constitution's prohibition on religious discrimination. Critics of the ban say it discriminates against Muslims.
