April 2018 has new textbooks for grades 1 and 6
The new curriculum and textbook drafting committee said the comprehensive curriculum has been posted online for comments since April 12, and is expected to be signed and certified in September 2017, and the textbook drafting will be urgently carried out.
In addition to the overall curriculum, the specific subject curricula are also built in parallel. Up to now, the subjects have basically taken shape.
There have been sessions for each subject's drafting committee to present their curriculum. For example, the math curriculum was presented at the beginning of last week to give it a clearer shape and for teachers and experts to contribute ideas for a better curriculum.
“If nothing changes, in May 2017, the subjects will have to submit the first draft of the subject curriculum to the National Subject Assessment Council. There are two different assessment councils. One national assessment council for the overall curriculum, and many national assessment councils for the subjects. In September 2017, the subject curriculum will be signed and approved for publication together with the overall curriculum document,” said the Drafting Committee.
However, later, during the implementation training process, if it is found that editing is needed, editing will continue.
Basically, the Ministry of Education and Training as well as the Curriculum Development Board are only responsible for making the curriculum. Unlike the current curriculum, which is responsible for both curriculum and textbooks, in which textbooks are the main ones.
According to the Drafting Committee, the new CT is very detailed, for example, the Math subject is up to hundreds of pages. Because it is a legal document to manage the education system and at the same time a promise of the government to the entire population about quality assurance.
The new program allows for multiple sets of textbooks. To comply with the requirements of Resolution 88 of the National Assembly, the Ministry of Education and Training has compiled a set of textbooks. Therefore, textbooks are written so that in April 2018, textbooks for grades 1 and 6 must be available for teacher training and implementation in the 2018-2019 school year.
