In early December 2016, Sinh met a divorced woman from his hometown on Facebook. He proposed to her, but she refused and continued to be friends with him.

In mid-January, while babysitting his child, Sinh received a phone call from this woman, inviting him to go to Hanoi to get cosmetics and perfumes to sell during the Lunar New Year. Sinh left his child with his parents, took the bus to the meeting point, then drove her Honda Vision back to Hanoi.

Wanting to have sex with a friend he met on Facebook, Sinh pretended to have a stomachache and went to the motel to use the restroom. The woman did not want to go to the room and wanted to wait at the reception desk, but Sinh pushed her in. He restrained her and demanded sex, but the victim refused, so Sinh gave up.

Sinh pretended to call his friend, making the woman panic and beg for help. He told the victim to go to the bathroom to put her clothes back on, then took advantage of the distraction to take all her belongings and motorbike and fled.

Sinh pawned the motorbike for 12 million VND to pay off the debt, and used the sim card on his phone. He was arrested more than a week later.

According to the initial investigation, Sinh went online, used a fake name, introduced himself as single, and got acquainted with girls. Nearly 10 victims in the provinces and cities of Hanoi, Nam Dinh, and Ho Chi Minh City were deceived by Sinh, had their phones and money stolen, etc.
