According to the verdict, Hung worked as a painter since June 2016 at an interior design company in Nam Tu Liem district with a salary of 4 million VND, including food and accommodation.
Hung quit his job after half a month because of the low salary. On the evening of June 19, 2017, Hung had the idea of burning down the company's factory to take revenge. That same night, he brought a lighter, went to his bed, and set fire to the mattress.
When he passed by the company office, he saw that there was about 15 liters of gasoline left in the can, so he poured it on the ground and lit it, causing a fire. The fire broke out and spread to the company next door.
Workers and firefighters extinguished the fire.
The fire caused the defendant's company to lose some assets, totaling more than 450 million VND. The neighboring company suffered nearly 200 million VND in damage.
Hung admitted that, in addition to the low salary, he had unrequited feelings for a female worker. The defendant burned the factory to "attract the attention" of his "dream girl". After burning the factory, Hung called the girl and said: "I am the one who burned the factory and will take responsibility for it."
Regarding the damages of the two companies, because there was no claim for compensation, the court did not consider it.
