Tan Ky youth build firebreaks to prevent forest fires
(Baonghean.vn) - After a morning of fighting, more than 90 union members, youth, forest rangers, the Forest Protection Management Board and people cleared more than 1 km of firebreak with a width of 11 m.
Tan Ky has more than 55 km of border of 11 communes bordering the districts of Yen Thanh, Do Luong, Anh Son, Quynh Luu, Quy Hop, Nghia Dan. These are key forest locations that are prone to fires during the hot season; because there are no firebreaks, fire prevention and fighting work is very difficult.
In 2017, Tan Ky district had a ground cover fire in hamlet 11, Nghia Binh commune. The cause was determined to be because this is an area bordering Lang Thanh commune (Yen Thanh district), Lang Thanh commune people handled the ground cover and let the fire spread to the forest in Tan Ky district.
Therefore, before the hot season this year, Tan Ky Youth Union members coordinated with the Forest Protection Department, the Forest Protection Management Board, and the officials and people of Hamlet 11 to organize a campaign to clear firebreaks in this border area.

Mr. Chu Van Thuan - Secretary of Tan Ky District Youth Union said: During this hot season, the District Youth Union Standing Committee and the grassroots Youth Union actively participated in propagating forest fire prevention to youth union members and people.After a morning of deployment, more than 90 union members, youth, forest rangers, the Forest Protection Management Board and people cleared more than 1 km of firebreak with a width of 11 m.

Mr. Hoang Van Khuyen in hamlet 11, Nghia Binh commune said that having a firebreak would be very good for households that have been contracted forest land in this area; and if a fire breaks out, it will be quickly extinguished, and mobilizing firefighting forces will also be easier...
Tan Ky is a mountainous district with more than 37,000 hectares of forestry land, of which 28,400 hectares are forested. To protect the forest area during the hot season, in addition to the participation of functional agencies and forest owners, the youth of Tan Ky district have regularly maintained more than 20 volunteer youth teams and groups as the core to protect the forest.
