79-story "Torch" Tower in Dubai on fire

Firefighters are trying to extinguish a fire at the 79-story Torch Tower in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

According to CNN, the above information was just announced by the Dubai Media Office early this morning (August 4). The civil defense agency said that the building has now been successfully evacuated and emergency personnel are trying to control the fire.

Videos and images posted on social media showed a column of fire rising high up one side of the skyscraper and a large amount of embers falling below.

The Dubai Media Office said that there have been no reports of casualties due to the fire. Notably, in February 2015, the same tower also caught fire for 3 hours, fortunately there were no casualties.

Dubai is famous for its skyscrapers, but fires have occurred in these towers before. At 336.1m high, the Torch Tower is one of the tallest residential buildings in the world.
