After the 2-0 victory of the Vietnamese team against strong opponent Malaysia in the 3rd match of Group A of the AFF Cup 2018, sharing with the press, Mr. Park praised Cong Phuong:
“Cong Phuong is one of the three strikers of the Vietnam team. He is a striker and has the task of scoring goals. Phuong has the ability to handle narrow spaces and finish very well. The fact that he scored a goal was within the calculation and there was nothing surprising.”
One of the surprises in this match was that Quang Hai and Xuan Truong continued to start in the center of midfield.
Explaining the decision to use two attacking midfielders in the middle, Mr. Park analyzed: “At the ASIAD in Indonesia, Quang Hai was tested in the central midfielder position and showed everyone that his thinking and skills were extremely suitable. At the same time, Truong was not playing well due to physical problems. But when he was in the best physical condition, everyone saw how excellent Xuan Truong was.”
Coach Tan Cheng Ho admitted a deserved defeat in the big match in Group A of the AFF Cup 2018.

"Today Malaysia started better than the previous two matches, but there were a few unexpected situations that caused us to concede an early goal, leading to losing the game," Mr. Tan commented after the 0-2 defeat at My Dinh.
"Our transition between defense and attack was also not good. The decisive passes were not accurate. However, I am still satisfied with this performance. This is also a lesson for us."
Coach Park Hang-seo somewhat surprised by arranging Xuan Truong - a player who is not in good form - to play in the middle of the field, instead of the player who is currently rated higher, Hung Dung. Captain Van Quyet also sat on the bench, while the main player in the left wing position was young talent Phan Van Duc.
When asked if he was surprised by Coach Park Hang-seo's personnel arrangement, Mr. Tan said: "No. We have researched and know that Vietnam passes quickly and attacks quickly in about 1/3 of the opponent's field. When we make mistakes in the defensive area, they immediately punish us."
