Brazil currently leads the world in the spread and death toll of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, with more than 62,500 new infections and more than 1,660 unfortunate victims on July 6. To date, the country has recorded more than 18.8 million positive cases and nearly 527,000 deaths.

Meanwhile, the epidemic in India is on the decline, with the number of new infections per day increasing at the lowest level in more than 100 days.

On July 6, the country recorded more than 43,300 new cases, bringing the total to more than 30.6 million infections, and 909 more victims, bringing the total to 404,200 deaths.

India has so far administered more than 300 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to its people in a massive nationwide vaccination campaign.

Indonesia asks for help to fight the epidemic

Faced with the complicated developments of the epidemic, the Indonesian government has just asked several countries to help the island nation.

According to Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, this is part of a scenario to deal with the number of new Covid-19 cases at the level of 40,000-70,000 cases/day. "We have been in contact with Singapore, China and other sources. We have really done everything comprehensively," he said.

Indonesia is also working with Facebook, Google and NASA to collect data on people's movements to help monitor the implementation of the emergency Public Health Restriction Order (PPKM).

On July 6, President Joko Widodo ordered the establishment of an emergency hospital to treat Covid-19 at Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory in Jakarta. With a capacity of about 1,000 beds, the facility will receive patients from the Indonesian capital and its surrounding areas.

In addition, authorities are also preparing several other locations with thousands of beds to quarantine patients and increase treatment capacity.

Thailand buys more Covid-19 vaccines

The Thai Cabinet on July 6 approved the signing of an agreement to purchase 20 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer (USA) and an additional 10.9 million doses from Sinovac Biotech (China).

Information about the budget for purchasing Pfizer vaccines has not been released, but this batch of vaccines will arrive in Thailand next October.

Meanwhile, the amount of money used to buy the Sinivac vaccine will not exceed 6.1 billion baht ($190 million), according to Thai Prime Minister’s spokesman Anucha Burapachasri, adding that the cost will be drawn from loans under an executive order.

Some sources revealed that 1.5 million doses of Pfizer vaccine shared by the US will arrive in Thailand in July and August.

Thailand aims to vaccinate at least 50 million people, or 70% of its population, by the end of the year. So far, the country has administered a total of 11.05 million doses of vaccines, mostly Sinovac and AstraZeneca, to its people. More than 8 million people have received their first dose, and 3.03 million have been fully vaccinated.
