Establishing sisterhood relations between Nghe An and provinces of Thailand

Attending the event were Ms. Morakot Janethukon - Deputy Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Vietnam, Mr. Ho Mau Thanh - Director of the Department of Culture and Sports, Chairman of the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association of Nghe An province, representatives of Vietnam - Thailand friendship associations in Vietnam and Thailand - Vietnam associations in Thailand.
The speech celebrating the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand by the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association of Nghe An province reviewed the close relationship between the two countries since ancient times, especially after the two sides established diplomatic relations in 1976 and after Vietnam joined ASEAN.

In the context of the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries in general, and between Thailand and Nghe An in particular, the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association of Nghe An province was established in February 2002.
Over 17 years of operation, the Association has had many practical activities such as establishing and exchanging information with Thai partners and overseas Vietnamese living and working in Thailand, organizing friendly exchange activities on major holidays of the two countries, participating as a bridge and focal point for cultural activities between Nghe An and Thai partners...
The association's activities aim to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the people of Nghe An and the people of Thailand; actively contribute to fostering the friendship and cooperation between the people of Vietnam in general, Nghe An province in particular, and the people of Thailand for everlasting sustainability.

Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand also reaffirmed that the Thailand-Vietnam relationship has been built for a long time, notably that President Ho Chi Minh lived and received support from the Vietnamese community and Thai people of Vietnamese origin during his activities in Thailand.
“Since Thailand and Vietnam established diplomatic relations 43 years ago, the two sides have exchanged delegations at all levels many times until upgrading to a strategic partnership, the highest level in bilateral relations,” said Ms. Morakot Janethukon, while reviewing some highlights in the economic and investment fields as well as social contributions that Thai businesses have been making in Vietnam.
The Thai Deputy Ambassador expressed that the Embassy of this country is honored to be a bridge, establishing a sister relationship between Thai provinces and Nghe An, bringing about specific results, in parallel with strengthening cooperation in education - training, exchanging, preserving and promoting the culture of ethnic groups and regions, contributing to promoting tourism and increasing income for people.

On the same morning, the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association of Nghe An province held a conference to review the association's work in 2019 and set out tasks for 2020. Collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in people-to-people diplomacy activities were awarded at the conference.
