On October 14, Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Van Sam - Captain of the Criminal Police Team - District 9 Police said that he had just arrested two suspects, Huynh Thanh Phong (25 years old, from Long An) and Le Bich Nhi (19 years old, living in Ho Chi Minh City) to investigate the act of "Robbery". In a state of panic, covered in mud, on the morning of October 10, Mr. Truong Van Bung (61 years old, living in Binh Thanh) went to Tan Phu Ward Police Station, District 9 to report that he had just been robbed by a couple.
According to Mr. Bung's testimony, at around 10:00 p.m. on October 9, Mr. Bung was picking up passengers near Gia Dinh People's Hospital (Binh Thanh) when a couple came to hire him to take them to Can Giuoc, Long An for 500,000 VND.
When they arrived at the area near C2 apartment building, Le Van Viet street, bordering District 2 and District 9, the couple asked Mr. Bung to drive them to the high-tech park to get money to pay, and suddenly attacked him with bricks, knocked him down, and then stole his motorbike and escaped. Lao Dong newspaper reported.
Upon receiving the information, the detectives began investigating and arrested the subjects while they were sleeping under a bridge in Phu Nhuan District.
At the police station, both confessed to robbing elderly motorbike taxi drivers. Phong sold the stolen motorbike to a man named Chien in District 10 for 1.3 million and they used it to inject drugs.
The incident is being investigated by the authorities.
