Türkiye sanctions more than 2,700 people after coup

The Turkish government has carried out a new purge, targeting people suspected of involvement in last year's failed coup.

Türkiye fired k today2,756 officialsworked in various government agencies, including the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense, includingThere are nearly 640 soldiers and more than 100 researchers, AFPreport

According to the Emergency Decree, these people were fired for being members of or having connections with "terrorist organizations operating against national security".The decree also requires 17 organizations to close, including two newspapers and seven associations.

To date, more than 140,000 people, including many judges, teachers, and scholars, have been fired or suspended, and more than 55,000 people have been arrested on suspicion of being linked to Mr. Gulen or the coup.
