"Most people get lazy when they get old and just want to sit on the couch and watch TV. I don't want that so I come here and exercise for three hours every morning," said Mr. Savino.
The fitness enthusiast has maintained a stable weight for 35 years and maintains good heart and lung function. He usually lifts weights on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; does cardio on Tuesdays and Thursdays; walks 2 miles on the treadmill and 8 miles on a stationary bike.
“I used to joke that he (Savino) works out harder than my 20-year-old son,” said Gary McClure, a retired gym employee. “Most people don’t believe that centenarians work out that hard. You have to see it to believe it.”
Savino was a pilot. He then went into the food industry and worked until he was 80. Then he started working out in the gym, which he still does today, at 101.
