Earn 140 million VND/ha from mustard greens

(Baonghean.vn) - Grasping market demand, farmers in Anh Son district have introduced the mustard green variety in winter crop production, bringing in an income of 140 million VND/ha.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung's family in village 6, Thach Son commune, earns 30 million VND/year from mustard greens.

Ms. Tran Thi Tam's family in Hamlet 5, Thach Son Commune, this winter, planted 6 sao of mustard greens on alluvial land. Quickly harvesting the vegetables to go to the market, Ms. Tam excitedly said: Currently, consumers really like this mustard green variety. When the vegetables grow about a hand's breadth above the ground, people do not cut the vegetables immediately but let them bud and bloom before harvesting.

The mustard greens are tied into small bundles, ten like ten. Since her family started growing mustard greens, the efficiency has been much higher. With a price of 4-5 thousand VND/bundle, on average, Ms. Tam earns 250-300 thousand VND per day. After deducting all expenses, her family earns 7 million VND/sao.

When the mustard greens grow about a hand's breadth above the ground, people do not cut them immediately but let them bud and bloom, then harvest and sell them.

For Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung's family in village 6, Thach Son commune, this winter crop he planted 5 sao of mustard greens. Mr. Hung said: Mustard greens are available everywhere, in every land, but mustard greens are only available in a few areas, so they are very popular. In particular, his family prioritizes product quality, limits the use of pesticides, and delicious vegetables are not enough to supply the market. In just 2.5 months from planting and harvesting, after deducting expenses, the family earns 30 - 40 million VND from growing mustard greens.

Currently, the mustard greens are not only grown by Anh Son people with 25 hectares but also by many other localities such as Ky Son, Con Cuong..., creating a clean and unique product in the winter crop in the highlands, bringing in an income of 120-140 million VND/crop. Mustard greens are mainly grown by farmers on alluvial land, land on the slopes, low hills, and rice fields without proactive water sources./.
