Billions in income from seedling nursery business

(Baonghean.vn) - The afforestation movement in Tan Ky district and mountainous districts inside and outside the province is growing stronger. Seizing that opportunity, localities in Tan Ky district have expanded the forestry seedling nursery business, earning billions of dong per year.

Farmers in Tan Huong commune get rich by growing seedlings.

We went to Tan Huong commune - the first commune in Tan Ky district to develop the forestry seedling nursery business. Since the beginning of 2016, the people in the commune have sold more than 11 million seedlings of all kinds, earning over 4 billion VND in revenue. Farmers are happy because the seedlings are in season and the prices are stable. Initially, there were only a few households that nursed trees, but now there are nearly 200 households with a production area of ​​13 hectares.

The nursery business not only creates jobs for family members but also creates jobs for many other workers in the area with an average monthly income of 4 to 5 million VND. These days, taking advantage of favorable weather, people in Tan Huong commune are focusing on nursery of various types of seedlings to serve the 2017 spring forest planting season.

Nghia Hanh and Ky Son communes have recently developed the seedling nursery business like Tan Huong commune. Currently, Nghia Hanh commune has over 30 households working in the seedling nursery business, concentrated in hamlets 8 and 9, with a total annual revenue of 2.5 billion VND.

Currently, Ky Son commune has over 60 households working in the nursery business, including 21 households in Doc Su hamlet who have joined the establishment of Ky Son forestry nursery cooperative. The cooperative has been operating since September 2016, with an estimated total annual revenue from seedlings of 4.6 billion VND.

Seedlings in Tan Ky have been exported to many localities.

Mrs. Le Thi Van's family in Doc Su hamlet, Ky Son commune, Tan Ky district grows 2 to 3 crops of trees each year with a total of 750,000 seedlings, mainly acacia trees, and after deducting expenses, earns a net profit of over 100 million VND. Especially since joining the cooperative, her family has been excited and actively expanding the scale of production.

Currently, Ky Son, Tan Huong and Nghia Hanh are three localities of Tan Ky district that are strongly developing the forestry nursery industry. The source of red basalt soil and the Ho Chi Minh trail running through the area make it convenient for export.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Thuc - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tan Ky district said: Currently, in Tan Ky district, there are 3 communes working in forestry nursery, mainly households living along both sides of Ho Chi Minh trail. Tan Ky district People's Committee has directed localities to propagate and encourage people to expand production scale, participate in establishing cooperatives to do a good job of management and stabilize product output.
