Collected over 1 billion VND gambling in the form of lottery

(Baonghean.vn) - Colonel Mai Chien Thang, Deputy Chief of Vinh City Police, said: the investigation agency has decided to prosecute the case, prosecuting 9 defendants for gambling in the form of lottery.

Faced with the complicated situation of illegal lottery under the guise of lottery registration in Vinh city, at the end of August 2015, the leaders of Vinh city police established a special project with code number 815D to fight and eradicate it. 10 officers and soldiers directly participated in the investigation, directly commanded by Colonel Mai Chien Thang - Deputy Chief of Vinh city police.

7 subjects in the project were prosecuted and temporarily detained.

The detectives verified that the subjects wrote the betting boards at small retailers on many streets of Vinh city such as Hung Binh, Hung Phuc and then collected them to the dealers. From these dealers, the betting boards were collected and continued to be transferred to a higher-level dealer.

After a month of collecting documents, 60 officers and soldiers of Vinh city police were ordered to participate in solving the case. Breaking into 9 lottery points in the city, the police arrested 9 people including Cao Manh Hung (born in 1962) residing in Le Loi ward, Vinh city; Duong Thi Dan (born in 1962) block 19, Dong Vinh ward; Nguyen Thi Yen (born in 1976) residing in block 5, Quan Bau ward; Le Thi Thuy (born in 1969) residing in block 8, Quan Bau ward; Nguyen Thi Lam (born in 1977) residing in block 19, Hung Binh ward; Nguyen Thai Son (born in 1977) Hung Binh ward; Pham Thi Ngan (born in 1963) residing in hamlet 8, Nghi Phu commune; Nguyen Thi Vinh (born in 1960) block 3, Le Loi ward; Tran Thi Hong Ha (born in 1968) residing in block 19, Hung Binh ward.

The seized evidence was 1 billion 73 million VND and 12 fax machines, 12 mobile phones, 45 lottery boards. Through initial investigation, the subjects confessed to directly participating in lottery betting with 500 million VND.

The investigation agency has decided to prosecute the case, prosecuting 9 defendants for gambling under Article 248 of the Penal Code. 7 out of 9 subjects were temporarily detained, the remaining 2 were released on bail.

The case is being further investigated, contributing to stabilizing security and order in the area./.
