According to senior officials in the British Government, the request will be made after triggering Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty on withdrawal from the European Union.
British officials insist that the European Union is obliged to pay the UK's share of the EIB's funds, now clarifying that London has a 16% stake in the bank, equivalent to around €10bn.
The relevant legal agreement has been drafted by solicitor Martin Howe and handed over to the Brexit Commission DExEU.
Earlier, British government lawyers concluded that Britain had a legitimate reason not to pay the European Union €60 billion under previously signed agreements, after leaving the European bloc.
According to British television channel Sky News, the House of Lords of the British Parliament at midnight this Monday, March 13, may pass a Brexit bill without amendment, which will allow the government to immediately begin the process of leaving the EU.
British Prime Minister Theresa May will announce the outcome of this week's EU leaders' summit in Brussels on March 14. The prime minister could use the speech as an opportunity to announce the launch of Brexit.
