Speaking to reporters, Mr. Medvedev commented: "It is clear that incumbent President Poroshenko has no chance of winning the elections because of what is happening now and may not even have the chance to continue to the second round."
In addition, the Prime Minister believes that the provocation in the Kerch Strait appears to be carried out "in order to obtain certain decisions that are politically beneficial for the incumbent President."
According to Mr. Medvedev, a year ago, experts on Ukraine talked about a possible scenario like the incident in the Kerch Strait in the context of the upcoming presidential election in Ukraine, and affirmed that this incident was not discussed at the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Minsk.
Prime Minister Medvedev also said that the incident in the Kerch Strait could cause more problems for the neighboring country's economy, saying: "Obviously, the incident (in the Kerch Strait) is another problem for the ongoing processes in Ukraine. It will cause serious problems for the Ukrainian economy."
