According to RIA Novosti on February 7, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in an interview with the Neue Zurcher Zeitung newspaper that Hungary is under constant pressure from the US and the EU.

"When a country with a population of 10 million people is subjected to enormous pressure from the outside, it cannot survive. We are the 'stepchild' of the West. The Democrats hate us because of our opposition positions on issues such as migration, gender issues and the situation around Ukraine," Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban complained.

Mr. Orban also noted that with President Donald Trump coming to power in the US, the situation has changed rapidly and he hopes to expand economic and political relations between the two countries.

In addition, the Hungarian leader also emphasized Europe's weakness and inability to resolve the situation in Ukraine on its own.

“We Europeans have to be more humble. The EU keeps talking about becoming a global power. But the union cannot even control the situation in its own region,” Prime Minister Orban said.

Mr Orban also reiterated that Russia is not a threat to Hungary and can always reach an agreement with it, unlike the European Union, which has found it almost impossible to find common ground with Moscow.

Also in the interview, the Hungarian Prime Minister said that Mr. Trump's "whirlwind" had reached Brussels and turned everything upside down. Mr. Orban noted that the crisis was happening in the EU and that change was needed.
