"The lifting of sanctions is only possible with the unanimous approval of the EU, which will not happen until the Minsk agreements are fulfilled," Prime Minister Sipila said. The Finnish Prime Minister is skeptical about the possibility of lifting sanctions, mainly due to the lack of progress in implementing the Minsk agreements.
Reuters quoted diplomatic sources and anonymous officials as saying that the European Union plans to extend economic sanctions against Russia for six months, after the upcoming meeting of European leaders in Brussels.
However, there is no consensus within the EU on the extension of sanctions. Some countries, including Greece, Italy, Spain, Finland and Hungary, are talking about sanctions with apparent reluctance.
