Prime Minister receives Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister
On March 31, at the Government Office, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the occasion of his official visit to Vietnam and attendance at the 6th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit.

At the reception, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that the official visit to Vietnam and attendance at the GMS-6 Summit by Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi demonstrated China's respect and support for the bilateral relationship and Vietnam's hosting of the GMS Summit this time.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc congratulated China on successfully organizing the Two Sessions and electing the new State and Government; affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to the comprehensive friendship and cooperation with China, and that maintaining the stable and healthy development of bilateral relations is in line with the fundamental and long-term interests of the people of the two countries, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc proposed continuing to promote the positive development trend of bilateral relations as demonstrated through high-level visits and contacts between ministries, sectors and localities.
Economic, trade and investment relations have developed rapidly, but the scale and level of cooperation are still not commensurate with the potential of the two sides. Some problems and shortcomings need to continue to be resolved and implemented more effectively to bring greater benefits to both sides.
The Prime Minister suggested that the two sides actively discuss and implement measures to promote balanced and sustainable development of bilateral trade, including China creating favorable conditions for the import of Vietnamese products; investing in high-tech, environmentally friendly projects that represent China's development level; implementing cooperation projects in accordance with agreements, ensuring quality and progress; accelerating cooperation in the fields of transportation, agriculture, environment, science and technology, finance and currency; creating favorable conditions for Vietnam to access preferential capital sources, such as the AIIB and other Chinese commercial banks and investment funds; and effectively implementing Chinese aid to Vietnam.
Regarding maritime issues, the Prime Minister emphasized that the two sides need to continue to seriously implement the common perception of the high-ranking leaders of the two Parties and two countries, the "Agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of maritime issues between Vietnam and China"; respect each other's legitimate and legal interests in accordance with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea; actively promote substantive progress in maritime negotiation mechanisms, control disagreements well, and maintain peace and stability in the East Sea.
Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi congratulated Vietnam on successfully organizing the 6th GMS Summit; affirmed that the Party, Government and people of China attach importance to and are willing to work with Vietnam to promote the China-Vietnam friendly neighborly relations and comprehensive cooperation; seize opportunities to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields with high quality; well control the situation and properly handle disagreements, maintain peace and stability in the East Sea, and continuously promote the China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to continue to develop healthily and stably.
