Prime Minister: 'The fates of Vietnam and Cambodia cannot be separated'

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that Vietnam will forever be a loyal and consistent neighbor to Cambodia.

On the afternoon of June 21, at the Binh Duong Provincial Convention Center, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted and welcomed Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and members of the Cambodian high-ranking delegation to visit Vietnam, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the day Prime Minister Hun Sen and his comrades began the revolutionary path, saving Cambodia from the Pol Pot genocidal regime, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit took place in the context of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967 - June 24, 2017) and the "Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year 2017".

The two Prime Ministers met and talked with representatives of the government and people of Binh Duong province, including many representatives of the young generation of Vietnamese and Cambodian students studying in Vietnam as well as representatives of generations of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who have gone to help Cambodia.

Looking back at the difficult and arduous but also glorious history of the two countries' joint efforts and hearts on the national liberation front, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc shared that the Vietnamese people have a saying "remember the bitter times when it is sweet" and emphasized that now is an opportunity to recall the history of solidarity and standing shoulder to shoulder between the two countries and peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia, in times of difficulty and adversity as well as in peace, prosperity and happiness.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that "the fate of the two nations cannot be separated, that is a truth from the historical reality of the two countries", "Vietnam will forever be a loyal neighbor, consistent with the country and people of Cambodia".

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc wished "good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive and sustainable cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia forever like the Mekong River connecting the two countries".

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen praised the solidarity and close friendship between the people of the two countries, especially the selfless, pure, comradely, brotherly and noble humanistic assistance of Vietnam to the Cambodian people in the struggle for national liberation, helping Cambodia escape the Pol Pot genocide, revive strongly and build a good society, bringing a prosperous and happy life to the Cambodian people.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed his gratitude for the sacrifices that Vietnam has made for Cambodia, saying that without Vietnam, there would be no Cambodia today. He wished "the Vietnam-Cambodia solidarity and friendship will be forever green and everlasting."

On the evening of June 21, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc held a reception for Prime Minister Hun Sen and a high-ranking Cambodian delegation.
