Tobacco destroys human living environment
(Baonghean.vn) - Smoking is the main cause of air pollution in homes, workplaces, schools, public places... and outdoors because cigarette smoke releases thousands of toxic chemicals into the air. Cigarettes have been destroying the human living environment.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the tobacco industry spends $23 million on advertising every day. The tobacco industry is classified as a company that practices green advertising (Greenwashing). This is a term used to describe a company that uses advertising to deceive consumers into believing that they have environmentally friendly products. An act of "Greenwashing" is when a company spends more money and time claiming to be a green business through advertising and marketing than actually participating in activities that minimize environmental impact.

Despite the advertising that tobacco is not harmful to the environment, and even contributes to improving and making the environment green and clean, the truth is that the tobacco industry is contributing to the harm to our planet.
According to WHO, tobacco farming and manufacturing are poisoning the air, water, soil, beaches and streets with chemicals, toxic waste, cigarette butts and microplastics. Tobacco farming contributes to deforestation, especially in developing countries. Every year, about 3.5 million hectares of land are cleared to grow tobacco and 600 million trees are cut down for wood to dry tobacco ingredients. Deforestation leads to soil degradation and reduces the ability of the land to support other plants.
Tobacco contributes to climate change and reduces climate resilience. The tobacco industry produces greenhouse gases equivalent to 84 million tons of carbon dioxide, warming the planet and destroying ecosystems. CO2 emissions are one of the causes of rising global temperatures, causing climate change that affects humans.
Cigarettes are destroying our planet. Millions of trees are cut down to make them. And to grow them, the soil and water are contaminated with toxic chemicals. To produce them, the air is polluted with toxins. And after they are used, they become waste that pollutes the natural environment in a way that we cannot regenerate.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), action to reduce tobacco use can help countries prevent millions of tobacco-related illnesses and deaths, help fight poverty and reduce large-scale environmental pollution.

• 600 million trees are cut down each year to produce tobacco.
• 22 billion tons of water are used annually to produce tobacco.
• 84 tons of CO2 are emitted annually from tobacco production.
