Raising the flag of national unity at the 17th parallel

April 30, 2016 16:15

To celebrate the 41st anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country and the 44th anniversary of the liberation of Quang Tri province, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province organized the "National Reunification Day" festival at the Hien Luong - Ben Hai Relic Site (Vinh Linh district).

The Hien Luong - Ben Hai historical site on both banks of the 17th parallel became a temporary military demarcation line in Vietnam after July 1954. Since then, the 17th parallel has become a fierce confrontation point in the war to protect the Fatherland between us and the enemy.

With the determination and iron will of our army and people, the northern bank of the parallel always raised the red flag with the yellow star, bravely holding on to fight and achieving the final victory. The “National Reunification Day” festival is an occasion to recall the memories of a heroic and tragic time, honor the immortal feats as well as deeply express gratitude for the great sacrifices of generations of fathers and brothers. At the same time, it educates the revolutionary tradition to the younger generation.

At this festival, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province organized a traditional boat race on Ben Hai River and a photo exhibition "Quang Tri - Legendary Rivers" at the 17th Parallel and the Aspiration for Unification Exhibition House.
