(Baonghean.vn)- Just a few weeks before the two parties hold their national conventions to elect their candidates for the US presidential election in November, last night, July 12, Hanoi time, the two remaining candidates of the Democratic Party, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Senator Bernie Sanders, joined a joint campaign in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

By joining the campaign together, both candidates have officially declared an end to their political rivalry, instead forming an alliance to compete with their Republican opponent: Donald Trump.

In a joint campaign, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders officially endorsed his opponent, Hillary Clinton, to become the Democratic Party's candidate in the presidential election on November 8, thereby ending the tense race within the party.

“I’m here to make clear why I support Hillary Clinton and why she should be the next president of the United States,” Sanders said. “She will be an extraordinary president and I’m proud to stand with her today.”

“I’m proud of the campaign we ran here in New Hampshire and across the country,” Sanders said in front of thousands of people. “Our campaign won primaries in 22 states.”

Mr. Sanders admitted defeat and congratulated Mrs. Clinton on becoming the only Democratic candidate running for US President next November.

The Vermont senator stressed that he will do everything possible to ensure that Mrs. Clinton becomes the 46th President of the United States. So far, 85% of Sanders' supporters intend to vote for Mrs. Clinton.

The long-awaited unity between the two Democratic candidates ended concerns among lawmakers in the party about a political “nightmare” scenario: that Mr. Sanders might “sit idly by” in the general election — or, even worse, run for president as a third party.

The Democratic convention, which takes place from July 25 to 28, is expected to have 4,763 delegates nationwide, and to be nominated by the party, a candidate must have at least 2,382 delegates. Mrs. Clinton has now surpassed the 425 delegate threshold.
