Vaccination of livestock in autumn season reaches 40% progress

Mr. Dang Van Minh, deputy head of the provincial veterinary department, said: Vaccination against epidemics in livestock and poultry has been implemented since September 15. Up to now, the whole province has vaccinated 90,134 buffaloes and cows against septicemia, and 32,350 against foot-and-mouth disease. Vaccination against swine septicemia has been done for 48,776, vaccination against swine fever has been done for 50,176, vaccination against dog rabies has been done for 351, and vaccination against avian influenza and H5N1 has been done for over 250,000 poultry.
Currently, some districts are waiting for the source of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine from the central government, so there is no vaccine for injection, leading to the slow progress of the autumn vaccination. According to the vaccination plan, the vaccination will start from September 15 and end on October 15. Due to waiting for the vaccine, it is expected that the autumn vaccination will be completed by the end of November 2016.

Entering the rainy season, the weather is humid, the rain and sunshine are erratic, the risk of disease outbreaks in livestock is very high, so in recent days, authorities at all levels and livestock farmers in Nghi Loc have been strengthening the protection of livestock, in order to minimize the damage caused by extreme weather.
Nghi Loc district currently has more than 24 thousand buffaloes, cows, 17 thousand pigs and over 700 thousand poultry. With 270 farms and ranches raising cattle and poultry. Mr. Tran Quoc Cuong - Head of Nghi Loc Livestock and Veterinary Station added: "Up to this point, we have organized the injection of 21 thousand doses of anthrax vaccine for buffaloes and cows; 12 thousand doses of foot and mouth disease vaccine for the Australian cattle farm belt; 11 thousand doses of swine fever vaccine and 37 thousand doses of avian influenza vaccine. At the same time, we organized the spraying of 607 liters of chemicals for key communes, market systems and livestock and poultry trading locations".

At the same time, the veterinary sector assigned staff to closely follow the facilities to guide and direct livestock households to implement measures to protect livestock such as: Covering barns, adding vitamins and minerals to increase resistance for livestock and poultry. Organizing additional vaccinations to proactively create immunity for livestock, monitoring epidemics to households and livestock facilities to detect early and promptly handle when detecting disease outbreaks.
