Striker Cong Vinh in the hearts of Buddhists

(Baonghean.vn) - These days, Cong Vinh's retirement from football has caused a stir in public opinion. Is it because amidst the hustle and bustle of life, people do not believe that there are decent people like Vinh??

Few people know that both Cong Vinh and Thuy Tien are Buddhists of the Tantric sect. In April 2015, when his name was not on the list to participate in the match with Shandong Luneng (China) in the 5th round of the AFC Champions League 2015 group stage, Cong Vinh had a ceremony to take refuge in the Three Jewels at Quang An ancient temple. Before that, singer Thuy Tien was also presided over by Venerable Thich Minh Tri at this very temple.

Venerable Thich Minh Tri performed the Three Jewels ordination ceremony for Buddhist Cong Vinh in April 2015 at Quang An Pagoda.

For many years now, through their adopted sister named Thuy, Cong Vinh and Thuy Tien have contributed tens of millions of VND to help Buddhists at Quang An Pagoda (Thanh Liet Commune, Thanh Tri District, Hanoi) and Ha Tien Pagoda (Vinh Yen City). In addition to the "quota" of 5 million VND/month, when a Buddhist family is in difficulty, the pagoda announced that Cong Vinh and his wife are enthusiastic.

Monk Thich Dieu Nhan shared: “When doing good deeds and helping the poor, Cong Vinh and his wife both asked not to be named. Not only these two temples, but the monk also observed that Vinh and his wife also quietly did good deeds in many other places. The temple does not understand much about football, but those who understand Buddhism and always do good deeds must be good people.”

Thanks to the help of Cong Vinh and his wife, many patients who came to the Ha Tien Pagoda General Clinic were able to be cured. Meals for the poor and sick had an extra piece of meat, fish, etc.

Not now, since his humble days, when he started his career as a professional footballer, Cong Vinh has been aware of the work he has to do. Cong Vinh is the first Vietnamese footballer to have his own spokesperson, who is a journalist. He is also the first Vietnamese footballer to buy insurance for his legs. When training, he knows to apply skin cream, and absolutely abstains from alcohol and cigarettes.

It is not that Cong Vinh is a perfect person, there are even times when he makes silly mistakes like the incident when he suddenly knelt down to bow to referee Vu Bao Linh on Cao Lanh field in 2010. But looking at it in general, this is the type of professional player that VFF and the media need to build an image of to become an example for juniors to learn from. It is clear that Cong Vinh is a model player with a spirit of training and playing with dedication, an exemplary husband and father in the family and a man responsible to the community.

On the Vietnamese pitch, he is the best striker in the history of the national team with 51 goals after 83 matches. If calculated on a global scale, he is ranked 6th in the top 10 strikers with the most goals for the national team. At the AFF Cup, Le Cong Vinh has scored 15 goals, ranking second in the top three strikers with the most goals in the history of the tournament. Regarding gossip, Buddha taught: "The world does not belong to you, so you do not need to throw it away, what needs to be thrown away is stubbornness. All things provide for us, but do not belong to us."

As for me, the person who witnessed Cong Vinh's ups and downs, I believe that in any environment, people like Cong Vinh will soon achieve success./.
