Truck driver who encroached on lane, killing young couple, detained

(Baonghean.vn) - After colliding with a motorbike going in the opposite direction, the truck driven by Sy swerved into the left lane and hit a couple who were going for a pregnancy check-up, causing the wife to die on the spot.

In the middle of Mr. Luong's house - Khoa's father's house, two coffins were placed side by side, incense smoke billowing. People who came to pay their respects, looking at the portraits of the young couple on the altar, could not hold back their tears.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Khoa (born in 1990) is the youngest of 3 siblings (2 boys, 1 girl). For the past 8 years, Mr. Khoa has been working for the Rare Radioactive Geology Federation (Geology Group 155). In 2017, he married Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet (born in 1993), a neighbor.

On May 10, while working in Nam Giang (Quang Nam), he heard that his wife was about to give birth. He asked his unit to return home to take care of his wife, planning to return to the construction site after the baby was born.

Since returning home, Mr. Khoa and his wife have taken each other to the hospital several times, sometimes staying there for many days, but Ms. Nguyet has not yet gone into labor. On the morning of May 22, as scheduled, the couple continued to go to Nam Dan General Hospital for a check-up, bringing all their belongings, waiting to give birth.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh (45 years old) - Khoa's neighbor, said in tears: "The afternoon before, Khoa came to visit and said that his wife was heavily pregnant, afraid of having difficulty giving birth, this time she would go to the doctor and be hospitalized, waiting for the birth. Yesterday morning, before going to the hospital, Khoa told his mother to go to the market to buy fish to bring home for lunch, but unexpectedly, he had not been gone for less than an hour when he died... Hearing the news of Khoa and his wife's death, not only me but the whole neighborhood and commune were heartbroken and devastated."

When the commune police called Mr. Luong's family to verify the accident in Nam Dan, just hearing the two words "accident", Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nhi (65 years old), Mr. Khoa's mother, was shaking so much that she could not hold the phone. When they learned exactly that their two children had died, Mr. Luong and his wife, who were already sick, were now paralyzed in the middle of the house, having to go to the emergency room several times. After so much waiting, thinking they would soon welcome their grandchild, unexpectedly disaster struck.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Lich (50 years old) - Khoa's uncle (also working in Quang Nam) just returned home, tears streaming down his face: "Although Khoa and his brother are married, they still live with their parents. Last year, Khoa renovated the yard, built a fence, and added a well, hoping that when he had money, he would build a new house. Unexpectedly, this time he came back and left, along with his wife and children. I love him so much, he is well-behaved, lives at the construction site as well as with his neighbors and has not offended anyone."

500m from Mr. Luong's house, in the neighboring hamlet 7, at Mr. Nguyen Van Hung's house, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Huynh is equally heartbroken. Although she has 5 children, all of them work and live in the South, only the youngest daughter, Nguyen Thi Nguyet (born in 1993), is married in the countryside. Mr. Hung's family married their daughter near their house, hoping that when they get old, when they get sick or have bad weather, they will have their children to help them, but unexpectedly...

That morning, Mr. Hung was herding buffalo in the field, when he heard the news that his son had an accident, he immediately went to Nam Dan and found out that his son was gone. Mrs. Huynh went to the market, heard the bad news, was stunned, could not believe it was true.

Couple died in truck accident

As reported, at 7:30 a.m. on May 22, Nguyen Khac Khoa and his wife were driving to the hospital when they had an accident on National Highway 46, through Van Dien commune, Nam Dan district. The car with license plate 36C - 036.71 was traveling in the direction of Vinh - Thanh Chuong. After a slight collision with a car, it veered to the left side of the road and crashed into a motorbike with license plate 37 K4 - 0160, causing a man to break his arm. Then, it crashed into a motorbike with license plate 37V3 - 0227, driven by Mr. Khoa, who was carrying his wife behind. The head-on collision caused Ms. Nguyet to die on the spot.

Although she had passed away, Ms. Nguyet was still taken by the authorities to Nam Dan General Hospital to perform a caesarean section to save her unborn child, but it was too late. Mr. Khoa was seriously injured and was taken to the provincial hospital, but also died later. That afternoon, the bodies of both husband and wife were returned to their hometown.

At noon on May 23, in the blazing sun, with heart-wrenching cries, the people of hamlets 7 and 8, Thanh Khe commune, together with their brothers and close friends, moved two hearses at the same time to send the unfortunate children of the village to their resting place, closing the dreams and plans of the young couple in grief and regret to the end.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Chau - Vice Chairman of Thanh Khe Commune shared: "After receiving the sad news, the commune sent representatives of departments and organizations to express condolences and encourage the victim's family. Hopefully the family will soon overcome this great loss."
