Revealing the reason why journalist Tran Dang Tuan was not selected to run for the National Assembly

On the afternoon of April 19, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi City stated the reason why journalist Tran Dang Tuan was not selected to be on the list of qualified candidates for the 14th National Assembly.

At the Hanoi Party Committee's propaganda meeting this afternoon (April 19), the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi reported the results of the 3rd Consultation Conference on selecting and making a list of qualified candidates for the 14th National Assembly and Hanoi People's Council for the 2016-2021 term.

Mr. Bui Anh Tuan - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Hanoi City said: "Those who run for office themselves or are nominated have equal rights. The vote of confidence at the place of residence and place of work is carried out in accordance with the law."

Regarding the case of journalist Tran Dang Tuan, Mr. Bui Anh Tuan said that Mr. Tuan achieved 100% (77/77) of voters' trust in his residence and workplace, but at the third consultation, he only achieved 15.66% (13/83 delegates) of trust rate.

Mr. Anh Tuan said: “We have followed the regulations, the vote counting team consists of 3 people: 1 Vice President of the Veterans Association as team leader, 1 President of the Hanoi Youth Association and 1 Vice President of the Student Association. The voting method, the Conference chose the form of raising hands”.

The Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Hanoi said that those who entered the third round of consultation all met the criteria because they had gained the trust of voters in their places of residence and work. After comparing the candidates' personal records, they were all very good before being included in the third round of consultation.

Regarding the elimination of some candidates, Mr. Anh Tuan said: “Among the outstanding candidates, we must choose the more outstanding ones. Through the delegates’ feelings, we see that the candidates who can contribute more to the country and make big decisions for the country are the rights of the 83 delegates.”

Notably, at the 3rd Consultation Conference, a candidate was introduced, Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem Hang - working at the Hanoi Institute for Socio-Economic Development Research, who was eliminated. Ms. Hang achieved 100% trust at her workplace, 53.12% of voters at her workplace, but only achieved 2.41% at the 3rd Consultation Conference.

Previously, the 2nd Consultation Conference of Hanoi City finalized the list of 87 candidates for the 14th National Assembly. At the 3rd Consultation Conference, 100% of the delegates voted to remove from the list 15 people who had withdrawn their applications and 29 people whose trust did not meet the requirements.

From the above list of 43 people, the Consultative Conference continued to vote to select 38 people for the official list of qualified candidates for the 14th National Assembly, including 1 reserve person.
